8 Peer evaluations

Every team member should fully contribute to the team project. In industry, performance is important for raises, promotions, or, in negative cases, terminations. In the classroom environment, peer evaluations are often used by instructors to scale grades.

Throughout the semester, we encourage students to not only complete their tasks, but to also regularly ask team members if there is anything extra that they could contribute. This is good habit to develop as a productive team member.

One possible tool that instructors may use for scaling grades to performance is a Peer Evaluation form. The following form is a sample to use for your team members.

Name: _______________________________________________

Part 1: Personal contributions to the project

Part 2: Team member scaling

Using a scale of 0 to 100%, rate each team member based on their contributions. A score of 0 means that the team member did not meaningfully contribute to the project. A score of 100 means that a team member fully contributed to the team. Grades are then scaled by averaging the scores from each team member. For instance, if the team earns 100% on a submission, but the average of the peer evaluation scores from teammates is 50%, then the student receives a score of 50%.

If anyone went over-and-above, please share comments on who they were and what they did.

If anyone earned less than 100%, please list their contributions and a summary of where they fell short.
