3 Plan for risks

Every project has risks. In the real world, there are many different types of risks, some including monetary risks or safety risks. In this chapter, we only focus on risks related to your course project. Typically, these risks involve a potentially lower grade on a project or extra effort required by team members to resolve problems.

1. Identify risks

The first step of this exercise is to identify risks. Examples of risks may include that a team selected a language for the project that none of the team members have used and there may be a bigger learning curve than expected; a team member may drop the course; or all of the team members have several midterms around a certain deadline for a project deliverable in the course. Identify 5 risks for your team.

2. Plan for risks

Teams need to monitor risks and plan strategies to prevent risks and/or respond to risks when they occur. Plan for the top risks for your team.
