Book Description: This textbook examines the history, roles and scope of the information and knowledge professions. Basic concepts and issues, including the impact of information technology on the individual, intellectual freedom, privacy and diversity are discussed. Legal and ethical aspects of managing information and knowledge organizations are examined. The goal of this textbook is to facilitate LIS students in developing in-depth understanding of Library and Information Sciences as a discipline; develop creative and critical thinking capabilities through exploring various IS topics independently, critically, and creatively; analyzing, synthesizing, and presenting information in a logical, coherent, and professional manner; understanding the life cycle and norms of research activities and practicing scholarly communication skills; developing team-building skills and introducing them to professional societies and associations.
